Quite a while ago I started with this project, and it will still take quite a while until it's completed. This WIP imagines what the Akira class from the movie Star Trek: First Contact would have looked like had the talented and skilled team at ILM been able to build a physical studio model to the scale of the Enterprise-E model.
Built in the same model shop at the same time, I imagine it would look like a starship designed and built at the same fleetyards that the Enterprise was constructed in. Similar to how the USS Reliant from The Wrath of Khan looked very similar to the Enterprise, the Akira class would share a lot of the design language and details.
While I make sure that the dimensions and proportions of the ship match the original CGI model, I took a few liberties to flesh out areas that were rushed or less visible in the original.
I completely redesigned the deflector area, taking inspiration from an original and scrapped deflector area of the Enterprise-E.
I took the paneling from the Sovereign class and applied it to the ship's hull, taking the existing concept art into account.
I also added a row of arboretum windows that were no existing anywhere on the ship, and are also not part of the concept art.
I will keep updating this page, so be sure to check in every now and then.
